That’s because Trial Director is designed to be run in extended desktop mode, where the operator is looking at Trial Director and the presentation preview on their laptop and the jury is looking at the Presentation Pane and seeing only the published exhibits. Full Screen mode is like Windows mode, except Windows takes up the entire screen. In this mode, you are running Windows as an app and any Windows programs run inside that app. Window mode lets you run Windows, the OS, inside a window on the Mac. Parallels Coherence Mode: Parallels has five modes: Window mode, Full Screen mode, Coherence mode, Crystal mode, and Modality mode. But this was what I was going to do anyway. Whether Trial Director 6 is contraindicated via Parallels? I don’t know. From the website, it appears that Trial Director is advertised as being able to be run on a Mac via Bootcamp. Parallels lets you borrow all the hardware of the computer you have to provide the operating system (XP, Windows 7, etc) and any programs (Trial Director, CaseMap). I frequently explain this to my students as that Parallels lets them create a second computer inside their Mac.

What Parallels does is enable you to install a second operating system on your Mac, and it lets you run them both at the same time. So, things like Trial Director, Sanction, or CaseMap, which do not have Mac versions, can be run if you have Parallels. Parallels As a brief primer for those who are unfamiliar, Parallels is software for the Mac that lets you run Windows programs. I wanted to see if Trial Director 6 would work. It has been a while since we updated the minimum technical requirements for our class, and XP is still currently the recommended Windows version for Bootcamp or Parallels installs of Windows. Also, we are teaching Trial Director as the trial presentation software, and most of my students have Macs. But, I happened to have an extra copy of XP lying around, back when I did my Parallels install.
I am fairly certain that the minimum technical requirements for Trial Director call for Windows 7. I took me a while to figure out and even longer to fix. I could get it to run, but I couldn’t get it to run in Parallel’s Coherence mode, which is essential if you are using Trial Director in extended desktop mode. But I wanted to put my backup copy on my Mac to see if it would work. I had a copy running on a PC laptop for primary in-court use. Recently, after sunsetting a couple of older laptops at work, I tried running Trial Director on my MacBookPro (13″ mid-2009) using Parallels.
